Making Portfolio Layout in Photoshop #1

here is my first Photoshop website layout tutorial i know that there will be lot's of mistake but i will minimize it to zero with some more tutorials that will be upcoming. this layout is somewhat minimalistic

So lets start the tutorial

to start the tutorial the necessary items you would like to download are listed below

twitter, RSS icons i have got them from iconfinder.net

960.gs grid system for Photoshop (you can download the the modified version of that 960.gs from my downloadable file for download link see below. the modified because i have change the dpi to 92 from 72 and also increased the width of the file)

so lets start

Step 1

open the 960 modified grid system from my downloaded file in Photoshop. make a new new layer (sck ctrl+shift+n or alt+ctrl+shift+n ) and make a gradient for the layer as shown in below image

make two horizontal grids at 50 px space as shown in below image and make a square with the help of round corner square shape with corner rounds of 10 px and apply the layer style as shown below to the layer containing square

Step 2

now go to the up left corner of the square and write the sites name like i have done with the character setting i have showed you

Apply this layer styles as shown below

now save this layer style because it will be used for further styling also

now make your slogan line below your site’s name and apply the layer style which we have saved it will now look like this

same way create your contact no. on the right corner of the box as shown below and apply the layer style 12 which i have saved for sites name

till now we have been making lots of character and other layers so keep organize them with help of folders and naming them. put all the layers till now we have created in a folder name bg & site name

now comes the navigation menu for this make two guides of width between them 50 px and create square with rounded corner of 25 px and apply the below layer settings and name it navigation bar

now to create a gloss effect select the work on the navigation bar layer (to select the work on the navigation bar layer move your cursor over the layer icon of navigation bar in layer panel push ctrl+click on icon you will get the selection) go to new layer and fill it will white color using shift+f5 drop layers opacity to 30% now move this layer upwards such that the 50% of the body is upwards and remaining 50% body is on the navigation layer. again make a selection of navigation layer and click on the gloss layer select invert by ctrl+shift+i and hit the delete key to deselect hit ctrl+D (don’t remove the grids)

you will get something like this

now create two grids as shown below for navigation button and create a round corner square with 15 px round corners like i have done and apply below layer styles and with help of character tool create Home text using Georgia fonts of 12 pt size and centerized it with help move tool

step 3

now create the square like i have done on the below image of 660 X 280 px and make selection of that layer and delete it now go to the layer where we created large square and delete the selected area like i have done

now paste your favorite image below this layer

now create a round on the mid of the left side of the slide show like i have done and apply the layer style which we have applied to the large square you will get something like this

now choose arrow like clip art from the custom shapes and make the selection of that clip art delete that selection from the round layer like we have done for the slide show image we will get something like this( to make another rollover image delete the selection from the large square layer)

same way create a arrow button for the right side

step 4

create square like i have made below the slide show each square on separate layer

copy the layer styles from the arrow button layer and apply to all this squares. same way create the header for all this squares each on separate layers and apply to all this header same copied style the final image will be like this

the style i have used for the heading text is same as for the sites name. paste some cool icons and dummy text and make it look good like i have done

final touches

make the footer good looking like i have done by adding twitter icons, boxes and footer links you are finished

this is first time i am releasing my blogger template or you can say that BlogSpot template. the name of this blogger template is magic of violet. let me introduce to it, it is not an ordinary template like others it the most customizable template because after following the things which i have given below you will definitely believe this

it comes with header menu bar which you can change easily customize

how to customize header navigation links

this templates doesn't comes with any links in it so you have to manually add the links by doing the steps as shown below.

Add animated navigation bar or menu to blogger

this is my another blogger tutorial for making the animated navigation bar or menu. this tutorial will take around 5 min to install if you know some thing like html or css. don't worry if you don't know i will make simple for the ones who don't any of this. you can see the demo on my only for this tutorial. so lets start it

first of all go to blogger sign in go to your blog which you want to add this navigation bar or menu than layout>edit html

Adding Read More rollover image to blogger

blogger have now help its user which are using a long posts to break into small parts where in the main page you can see a small portion of the post and clicking on the read more link you can see full post this can be easily done with help of inserting a small code

but once again the boring effect is that they will generate only the read more text links really weird. so to modify the this link you have to do some css hacks which will replace that text link with a rollover image

just simply paste this css snippet code in to you blogger css code as show in below image

you can upload this image to your favorite image hosing site and replace the image url used in this code snippet with that url don’t forget that this a single image only in which rollover effect is gained with the help of css techniques

after a long time i am writing this post, i have decided to write more tutorials in near future currently i was busy in my job hunting so i couldn't give enough time for my blog and with job hunting there was also the psd tuts competition so i was also busy creating theme for that one on photoshop cs4. i will post all the images at first night of navratri. navratri it is the festival enjoyed for 9 days by playing garbas for goddess amba every 9 nights. till than enjoy the life

making the night club shining ball - tutorial

in this tutorial we will be making a real like night club disco ball which shining and rotating giving a glamor look disco and night clubs so let start with it

step 1
first you have make a pattern to fill the ball. to make the pattern create a new document of 60 x 60 px and make a 15 x 15 box as show in the above fig with the help of grid so selecting and filling can be done easily with help of rectangular marquee tool fill the small squares. after filling the canvas as show in the above fig go to edit>define pattern and save it.

step 2
create any size of new document in photoshop. create a new layer. select the elliptical marquee tool and make a perfect circle with help of sift+draging. now select the paint bucket tool and select the pattern option and select the pattern which we have made and saved. fill the selected circle.

step 3
with selected circle go to filter>distort>shperize and make the properties and as show in above fig and hit ok. you will a nice sphere like object.

step 4
create a new layer fill it with black color and take this layer back side of the ball. now make the duplicate layer of that ball layer and with the help of transform tool make a mirror image of it with 50 % fill in opacity and by remove other part of it with the help of soft 300 brush. make it look like i have show in above fig

step 5
create a new layer above that black layer this one we are making for the shining lines. in this new layer go to the custom shapes and select the shape i have show in the above fig and make the fig like this you can make a perfect shape with help of shift+dragging. now go to the path palette and do this ctrl+click on the layer icon on path palette. you can now see the selected area in layer just apply the gradient fill of white and black as i have done.this shape making can be done in many ways be sure which one technique you are using and feel free to try any other

step 6
apply this layer styles to the original ball layer only dont make a mistake and apply this layer style to its mirror image and now last touching moments get some star shining brushes and make it shine you have done it

how to make your own glossy gradients - tutorial

make your own glossy gradients in just a seconds i am sure that after this tutorial you will be able to create your own glossy gradients within 10 to 15 seconds. so lets start it

first step
open up the gradient window and choose the first gradient it will be yours foreground and background gradient
second step
go to your color stop and choose the colors like i have done in the above image if u dont know what is color stop than dont worry it the the small pen like icon below the color strip which is showing you the gradient
now make two more color stop by just clicking below the color strip and choose the color as shown in the above two image
last step
after making and choosing all the color stop and colors select the 2nd color stop and make its location to 50 % as show in the above image do the same thing for the 3rd color stop means make the location of that color stop to 50 % and you have done it
i am sure after doing this tutorial you will try it with other different colors and make new glossy gradients that you imagined
